Growing up in Tennessee, I became very familiar with the offerings on my mother's table - garden fresh tomatoes, pancakes, eggs and bacon with homemade biscuits, a typical Sunday breakfast. I tasted love with every bite. We have taken these traditions & brought them to your table. No frills, No gimmicks, just tasteful, time honored recipes we hope bring you "A Little Taste of Home"
Union street was at the financial center of the new Nashville economy, referred to as the “Wall Street of the South,” when the 417 Union Street building was completed in 1897. The building’s architecture reflects the revival of the Greek style that Nashville experienced after the Civil War. This building initially served as an insurance brokerage house. In 1939, during the run up to WWII, it became the new home to Satsuma Tea Room, which established itself as a popular lunch destination, as it would be for the next 65 years.
Satsuma closed its doors in July 2005, and I took over the lease in October that same year, reimagined the space as 417 Union, and we opened to the public on June 15, 2006.Our collection of WWII artifacts serves to honor that period which the patrons and staff of Satsuma experienced together as a dining community. Our upstairs dining room permanently houses a Civil War exhibition emphasizing the war’s impact on Nashville and middle Tennessee. We hope to bring this historical context to your dining experience. Sharing a meal is a hallmark of community, and we are proud to be a part of yours.
