417 Union
Classic American Dining

Reviews

From the moment you step into 417 Union you are catapulted back in time to the 1940's. This eatery is presented in the style of a diner around the end of World War II. But upon arriving for breakfast, the decor isn't what dropped my jaw. It was the scintillating menu offerings.

Cinnamon Apple Pancakes, Portabella and Roasted Red Pepper Hash and an awesomely stuffed Blue Ribbon Omlette (sliced prime rib, mushrooms, onions & gorgonzola cheese) all shouted "eat me!" from the menu.

What won the shouting contest, while contemplating the Lox and Bagel breakfast, was the Smoked Salmon Hash; smoked Alaskan salmon grilled with onions and seasoned potatoes then topped with three over-medium eggs. Served with sliced tomatoes and toast.

This was a heavenly selection, unlike anything I've ever tasted before.  Nice big chunks of homestyle cut potatoes and the salmon's rich flavor mixed in with every bite.  The tomatoes were tender, fresh from the local farmer's market and the toast was thick-cut and served with blackberry jam.  I wanted to get up and do a little dance - but that would've meant pausing the fork, and the mouth was having none of that pausing business.

About halfway through, I sat back and actually took in the sights, which will be a loving time trip for those who love the era.  Aided by piped-in music featuring lots of big band, swing and crooners of the period, this was absolutely one of the bests breakfast visits I've had in years.  This would be a definite re-visit next time coming to Nashville.

What a fortunate coincidence!!  We were only in Nashville for four days and we ate here twice during our stay.  Both visits were wonderful.  The waitstaff were absolutely the nicest people -- our favorite was Danny -- and the food could not be beat.  We also adored their flower pens and they were so kind as to give my friend one as a souvenir!

During my first visit I had the fried tilapia sandwich.  For the most part I am pescetarian (no land meat) and wasn't expecting much from a southern fish sandwich.  At one point I was literally moaning the sandwich was so good.  Also, had the fried pickles, which were a salty snack popper. Highly recommend!

The second visit I decided to just go for it and ordered the fried chicken.  I could not visit the south without trying authentic Southern Fried Chicken.  I was NOT disappointed.  It was beyond delicious.

I could not recommend this restaurant enough.  No complaints whatsoever.

Excellent breakfast.  My wife and I agree this is a 5 star place. Just right atmosphere, excellent food and top notch staff equals 5 stars.

The omlete I had was very large with excellent ingredients.  It came with potatoes, tomato, toast.

The coffee was also excellent.

While visiting from Chicago I had the fortune of staying in a hotel near this place and stumbled upon it. Their friendly staff welcomes you to this blast from the past place, where things were simpler. If you are there for their breakfast the 417 omelette is by far the best omelette that I have ever had.  They offer a full bar and they even have happy hour! If you want to experience the true southern charm this is the place to go, I really felt treated like family. This will be a must stop any time i'm in town
